- The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
Greetings and Felicitations!
I hope to enlist your help in finding a story for me, which has sizzled in my brain since I've read it about half a year ago, and now I can't remember where:
It is about a fight with THRUSH (I believe where they want to kidnap or kill Napoleon): one evening where Illya and Napoleon are in Napoleon's penthouse apartment discussing their relationship, as a THRUSH delegation is about to visit (breaking and entering) and they both call for help from U.N.C.L.E. They leave their communicator open, and Illya tells Napoleon that THRUSH don't know that he Illya is in the apartment, and that they can therefore surprise them, whereupon Napoleon mock-surrenders before a fight breaks out, and, thanks to Illya, THRUSH gets beat before the U.N.C.L.E. reinforcements arrive, however, the apartment takes some damage. The U.N.C.L.E. operator listens in to the fight while it is underway and comments afterwards on the favourable odds. I believe it was one scene out of a longer story with a good plotline (which I would like to re-read) and it may have been a slash story as well. Help, please, to get this story teaser out of my brain?
All the best,
The TimeLife website now lists the Man From U.N.C.L.E. dvds at a list price of $249,- for all 4 seasons plus about 10 hours of extras.
Do a search on www.timelife.com or try this tiny url:
First time I ever tried buying anything out of Russia. I was a bit apprehensive about whether the dvd would get through the Russian postal system (I didn't go for the option of using UPS or other delivery services), but it went fast and without a hitch. I got the dvd in yesterday's mail.
Finding the dvd, buying it last week, and getting it through the mail in less than seven days, safe and sound. Wonder of wonders, I'd consider doing it again :)
Total price was us dollar 20.99 but then I'd add an extra dollar for using PayPal. No problemo!
And my source? http://www.dvdigitall.com/dvd/w11997
I'm so glad I went ahead and did it. If a cinematic release of Highlander: the Source ever gets out in Europe, I'd consider going to the cinama and see it. But most likely I'd just have the option of buying the dvd (again) in September in the editor's 'approved' cut. So, likely I'd go ahead then and re-watch the movie to see if the edits have improved the movie overall. I doubt it, though. Being an overly optimistic person I'd probably go, with a view to thinking that it can't get *any worse*, and that at the very least I would get to see Peter Wingfield on the big screen (a charismatic actor that would deserve more screen time (dammit what I wouldn't give to see a Highlander: The Methos Movie!!)).
But would it be worth the extra dollar(s) - or euros in my case - to rewatch another version of this movie? Only die-hard fans would go in to watch it - I doubt that the movie will succeed in attracting a new or larger fan base, despite its intentions to do so. And maybe die-hard fans will have died out before this movie gets released. The Highlander forum and various boards are alive with speculation and frustration on the scant information of release dates etc. for this movie. Even a decent enough trailer has been hard to find. The powers that be are not overly communicative about their movie, so rumors fly, and hard facts are hard to come by.
If Highlander: The Source is intended as number one in a trilogy I doubt that the actors would be allowed to be released from their retirement homes by the time that they are ready, willing and able to shoot the third movie. Now, I have enjoyed satisfying my curiosity and watching 'the Source' and I can go put my mind on to other pursuits, leaving Highlander behind.( Read more - beware - spoilers aheadCollapse )
My verdict: Highlander the Source - just - doesn't - cut it.
But I'll be looking forward to reading the fan fiction. Without the Mary Sues. After all: We'll always have Paris (and Scotland).
So I finally did it.
Although my fannish obsessions in recent months have been turned to another fandom than Highlander, I did follow on the discussions on lists about the Source. So I decided to check things out when the spoilers began to get lively. Would I like the Source? was it worth checking out beforehand?
So I decided to go ahead and sniff around the 'net. And I did found out where I could buy the Russian version, (the "Moscow cut") of the Source.
Even though it meant buying from Russia, I decided things looked legit enough for me to try it out. The company used paypal, and free shipping, the price was not too costly. So I decided to take a chance on delivery and went ahead and ordered it during week 7, when I had the chance.
It arrived yesterday.
So, I watched it last night and rewatched it today. It is a nice movie, a good quality dvd and at an affordable price.
I'm glad I didn't wait until this fall!
More to come...

Now I haven't updated in a while, but today I added a few maps of places I've been to. Whew, I didn't realise I've been to so many places in Europe, I feel like I've run a marathon just by looking at the map! well, most of the travelling was work-related. It would be nice to go back and do some sightseeing.
I've been studying Spanish and Italian, but lately I've been fascinated with Russian phrases. Hmmmm! Maybe it has got something to do with my new fandom: The Man from U.N.C.L.E which I started reading this past October.
I always thought I was a monofandom girl - namely Highlander. Now it seems DM/M has been replaced somewhat in my mind by I/N or is that N/I?
At least, I can get many recs for stories up at the Crack Van. Who knows, I may end up being multifandom by the end of the year.
